The story behind Los Colores

Los Colores—as it’s affectionately known—began as a personal vision shaped by a love for Yucatán and a desire to create something meaningful.

In 2016...

I set out on a road trip across the Yucatán Peninsula, searching for a place to call home—and the right setting to create a boutique bed and breakfast.

The journey led me through vibrant destinations like Cancún, Tulum, Bacalar, Campeche, Mérida, and the quiet beauty of Río Lagartos.

While both Campeche and Mérida stayed with me, it was Mérida that truly resonated.

There was something in the rhythm of the city—the energy, the color, the everyday life—that made it feel like the place where this dream could take shape.

With nothing but determination...

The vision began to take shape, I immersed myself in learning everything I could about creating a boutique bed and breakfast.

I spent years researching, reading, and experiencing stays as a guest—paying close attention to the details that make a place feel memorable, personal, and worth returning to.

Along the way, I connected with experienced B&B owners not only in Mérida, but also in Washington, D.C. and other destinations, learning firsthand about the lifestyle, the challenges, and what it truly takes to create something meaningful.

As the plans took shape...

And with a clearer vision in place, I began searching for the right property—leaning on friends for their support and expertise along the way.

At the same time, I found myself in the kitchen, experimenting with bread recipes and quietly developing what would eventually become the signature breads of Los Colores.

Raising the funds was only the beginning. Finding the right space proved to be its own challenge.

Over the course of two years, I attempted to purchase five different properties—each one falling through in ways I hadn’t anticipated, testing both my patience and my commitment to the dream.

Undeterred, I persisted.

And that persistence paid off.

Today, Los Colores de Mérida stands as a reflection of that journey—shaped by intention, resilience, and a deep connection to the vibrant culture of Mérida.

What began as a personal dream has become something more: a place created to offer genuine, thoughtful, and truly local experiences for every guest who walks through the door.

Stay here for a while.
