The Equinoccio de Primavera (Spring Equinox) at Chichen Itzá is a breathtaking and ancient astronomical event celebrated each year on March 20 or 21. During this time, thousands of visitors gather at the famous Mayan pyramid of Kukulkán to witness a remarkable alignment of the sun and the structure, which the ancient Maya designed with incredible precision.


As the sun sets, it casts a series of triangular shadows along the pyramid’s northern staircase, creating the illusion of a snake slithering down the steps. This shadow aligns perfectly with the stone carvings of the feathered serpent god, Kukulkán, at the pyramid’s base, symbolizing his descent to the earth. This phenomenon lasts for a few hours and occurs only during the spring and autumn equinoxes.
