Mérida: Origin, Memory & Mexican Cultural Diversity
Looking for something a little different from the usual Mérida evening? Head west of the historic center and Los Colores de Merida B&B to Parque de La Paz for a new videomapping experience celebrating Mérida's origins, its living cultural heritage, and the extraordinary diversity of Mexico.
The projection transforms the façade of La Peni, the former Juárez Penitentiary, into a colorful nighttime canvas. Inspired in part by Ichkaansihó, the Maya city that existed before Mérida, the experience explores the landscape, history, and everyday life of a growing city before and beyond its walls.
The September presentation also turns its attention to Mexican cultural diversity, recognizing that Mexico is not a single voice but a mosaic of communities, cultures, traditions, histories, encounters, and lived experiences. Together, these themes offer a reflection on where Mérida came from and the many voices and stories that continue…
