Festival de las Ánimas 2026: Tradition, Memory, and Connection
October 24 – November 2, 2026
Late October and early November bring one of the most meaningful times of year to Mérida. Staying with us at Los Colores de Mérida B&B, in the Santiago neighborhood of Centro, you’ll be close to the plazas, markets, and neighborhoods where the traditions of Festival de las Ánimas come to life.
The festival leads into Janal Pixán, the Maya tradition of honoring loved ones who have passed. Meaning “food for the souls,” Janal Pixán is deeply rooted in Yucatecan culture and is celebrated through food, altars, ceremonies, and family traditions. This year, Los Colores will have our own altar, and guests will be invited to participate.

Rather than taking place in one location, Festival de las Ánimas unfolds throughout Mérida. Visitors may encounter:
