Feria Xmatkuil

Every November, Yucatán comes together for Feria Xmatkuil, one of Mexico’s largest and most anticipated annual celebrations. Located about 40 minutes south of Mérida’s Centro, the fairgrounds come alive with carnival rides, live music, food vendors, shopping, livestock exhibitions, agricultural displays, cultural events, and plenty of opportunities to see how Yucatecos celebrate. For visitors, Feria Xmatkuil is a chance to step outside the usual tourist experience and discover a more local side of Yucatán. Come hungry and plan to wander. You’ll find traditional Yucatecan foods alongside fair favorites, colorful rides and games, regional products, and a constantly changing schedule of entertainment and events.

The fair is especially lively in the evenings, when the lights come on and families and friends fill the grounds. It’s a very different experience from an evening exploring Centro, and that contrast is part of the fun!
