About the event
Desfile de Catrinas 2026
Celebrate Janal Pixán as part of Mérida’s Festival de las Ánimas with the colorful Desfile de Catrinas, one of the festival’s more colorful and exciting evening celebrations.
Beginning at 7:00 PM at Plaza Grande, the procession makes its way through Mérida Centro toward Parque de La Plancha, bringing the streets to life with Catrinas and Catrines, dancers, musicians, performers, and colorful Mexican imagery. The celebration features zanqueros, mojigangas, mariachis, dancers, local artists, and alebrijes, creating a lively procession filled with energy and creativity.
The Desfile de Catrinas is part of Festival de las Ánimas, a citywide celebration that brings together cultural, artistic, gastronomic, and traditional events inspired by Janal Pixán and the ways communities remember and honor those who have passed. In Mérida, these traditions continue to evolve while remaining connected to Yucatecan culture and Maya heritage.
