About the event
Experience one of the most delicious traditions of Janal Pixán at the 9th Feria del Mucbipollo, also known as the Pib Festival 2026, at Parque de San Sebastián.
The fair celebrates pib, or mucbipollo, the traditional Yucatecan tamal prepared for Janal Pixán. You can try traditional chicken and pork versions, along with varieties featuring cochinita, relleno negro, castacán, and lomitos.
One of the highlights is the pib enterrado demonstration, where you can watch these enormous tamales being cooked underground using the traditional earth-oven method. There will also be live music, regional storytelling, and Janal Pixán altars.
Go early if you want to try the pib. Vendors can sell out as the day goes on. From Los Colores de Merida B&B, I recommend taking a taxi or rideshare to the festival rather than walking.
